Hilo Safety has come a long way, but injuries can still happen

by admin on October 10, 2007

Hilos may very well be the greatest invention for manufacturing and warehousing since.. well, the warehouse. They are relatively easy to operate, are low impact, fit in relatively small storage areas and make lifting and moving pallets and boxes very easy. As the years have passed, safety advocates and hilo manufacturers have worked together to improve how hilos work and how they can prevent injuries. The institution of movement beepers (both back and forward) as well as safety belts and anti-tip controls make running and using a hilo more safe than ever.

However, it’s still up to employees to follow safety precautions, watch our for hilos in aisleways and to listen for their warning beeper. It also makes sense to have a spotter working with the hilo operator to clear hallways and help keep employees safe.

We’re doing our part by developing decals like the SD012 vinyl 4″ Round “Water for Hilo” and SD014 4″ Triangle Hilo Safety decals. These should be placed anywhere that a hilo travels and should be prominently displayed in storage areas, warehousing areas and shipping docks.
